Ingles Supermarkets: A Champion for the Buy-Local Movement and Title Sponsor for the 110th Canton Labor Day

August 27, 2016

The Town of Canton is proud to welcome Ingles Supermarkets as the Title Sponsor for the 110th Canton Labor Day Festival.  As a 1960’s bootstrap company that now operates 200 stores across six states, Ingles epitomizes the Made-in-Western North Carolina success story.  Ingles was an early champion for the buy-local movement and has made a profound economic impact by boosting rural economies throughout the state through their sheer purchasing power.  Today Ingles fervently supports mountain farmers from whom they source much of their fresh produce.  They also donate millions of dollars to area schools in order to foster the next generational workforce.  Upward career mobility is still a central tenet of the Ingles name.  Many of the store managers and company executives got their start as baggers and cashiers and worked their way up the ladder.  The Ingles store in Canton is among the most profitable in the family due to the solid base of customers whom work at the mill.  We are grateful for Ingles’ support this year and we hope you will continue to support them as they expand their family-centered business model and American-Made values into more communities.

Robert Ingle opened the first Ingles supermarket in Asheville, North Carolina in 1963. He saw an opportunity to invest in smaller towns and rural communities throughout North and South Carolina that were being underserved by large grocery chains. It was a strategy that proved so successful that expansion into similar communities in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Virginia soon followed. Ingles now operates approximately 200 stores in six southeastern states with annual sales of almost $4 billion.  Ingles strives to provide one-stop shopping convenience to its valued customers. Ingles supermarkets offer customers a wide variety of nationally advertised food products, including grocery, meat, produce, deli and bakery departments. In addition, the company offers pharmacies and fuel at the majority of its 200 plus locations.

Ingles offers a full variety of brand name products supplemented with Ingles' own Laura Lynn brand products which are equal or superior to National Brands and guaranteed by Ingles Markets. Ingles Private Label products are named after Mr. Ingle's daughter, Laura Lynn Ingle.
